Founded during 2001 in Shanghai and
Silicon Valley, Spreadtrum is a fabless semiconductor company that designs,
develops and markets baseband processor solutions for the wireless
communications market. We combine our semiconductor expertise with our internal
software development capabilities, along with integrated multimedia
functionality and power management, to deliver a complete wireless system
solution on a single chip. Our open development platform also enables our
handset customers to design customized wireless products that are feature-rich
and meet their cost and time-to-market requirements.
Our comprehensive portfolio of baseband solutions support a broad
range of wireless air standards, including GSM, GPRS and TD-SCDMA, while
offering a wide array of multimedia capabilities such as TV-Out, MP3 digital
audio playback, Motion JPEG, MPEG4, H.264 digital video playback and AVS.
Our business model has enabled the rapid development of advanced
products. Within the first 15 months of our inception, we developed our first
series of integrated baseband semiconductors for the GSM/GPRS market (the 6600
series), and by June 2005, we commercially introduced what we believe to be the
world’s first fully integrated analog and digital baseband semiconductor with
power management and multimedia functionality on a single chip. For the 3G area,
we developed our single chip 8800 series in April 2004, which we believe was the
world’s first dual-mode TD-SCDMA/GSM baseband processor, and in February 2007,
our second generation 8800 product added HSDPA support to our TD-SCDMA chip.
By conducting most of our operations in the high growth wireless
market of China, we believe we have a unique strategic advantage including
access to a highly educated technical workforce, a competitive cost structure,
and a geographic proximity to a significant portion of the wireless handset
supply chain. We are a recognized leader in the emerging China semiconductor
industry as indicated by various third-party awards we have received that are
based, in part, on the technological innovation of our baseband semiconductors.
While we have enjoyed significant growth, we are investing for the future. This
